P&LCalc
About P&LCalc
Financial clarity
without the friction
Free profit and loss calculators built for small business owners, freelancers, and anyone who needs to understand their numbers — without a finance degree or a monthly subscription.
Why we built this
Most financial calculators online fall into one of two categories: too simple to be useful, or buried behind a paywall or signup wall that exists to capture your email rather than help you. The ones that are genuinely useful — that show you gross margin, net margin, and a breakdown of where your revenue actually goes — are usually locked inside accounting software that costs $30 a month.
The calculations themselves aren’t complicated. Gross margin is revenue minus COGS divided by revenue. Net profit is what’s left after you subtract everything. Breakeven is fixed costs divided by contribution margin. None of this requires a subscription — it requires a well-built calculator and a plain-English explanation of what the number means.
That’s what P&LCalc is: the financial tools small business owners actually need, built properly, available for free, with no signup required and no data collected.
What we stand for
🔓
Always free, always open
Every calculator on this site is free to use without creating an account, entering an email address, or providing any personal information. No freemium tier, no “basic features only” — everything works on the first visit.
📖
Plain English, not jargon
Every result comes with an explanation of what it means — not just the number. A 23% gross margin is different from a 23% net margin. A 50% markup is not the same as a 50% margin. We explain the difference every time, without assuming prior financial knowledge.
⚡
Instant — no submit button required
Every calculator updates as you type. There is no submit button, no loading spinner, no round trip to a server. Your data never leaves your browser — calculations happen locally, instantly, every time a number changes.
🎯
Built for the question you’re actually asking
Generic calculators give you a number. Ours give you context — what’s a good margin for your industry, what the number means for your specific situation, and what to do about it if the number isn’t where it needs to be.

How the site is supported
P&LCalc is supported by display advertising shown around — but never inside — the calculators. The tools themselves are clean, uninterrupted, and ad-free. Ads appear in the surrounding page content, which keeps the calculators fast and distraction-free while keeping the site sustainable.
We do not sell your data, run affiliate schemes inside the tools, or accept payment to recommend specific products or services. If we write about accounting software or financial tools in our learning content, it’s because it’s genuinely useful — not because anyone paid for the mention.
Who this is for
P&LCalc is built for small business owners who want to understand their margins without hiring an accountant for every question. Freelancers figuring out whether a project is profitable after costs. Side hustlers who want to know their actual take-home before committing more time. First-time founders who need to explain their unit economics to someone else. And students who want to understand how financial statements actually work before an exam tests them on it.
If you run a business, or are thinking about starting one, and you want to understand your numbers — this site is for you.
