Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026 · Effective immediately

1. Overview — the short version

The short version: The numbers you enter into our calculators never leave your browser — calculations happen locally and we never see, store, or transmit your financial data. We do use Google AdSense (which sets cookies) and basic analytics. This policy explains what that means in practice.

P&LCalc ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at [yourdomain].com. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you visit and use the site. We have written it in plain English because privacy policies that nobody reads don't protect anyone.

If you have questions about anything in this policy, contact us at hello@[yourdomain].com.

2. What data we collect

We collect minimal data. Here is a complete list of the categories of information that may be collected when you use this site:

  • Usage data — pages visited, time on page, browser type, device type, and approximate geographic location (country or region level, not precise location). This is collected automatically by analytics software and helps us understand which calculators are most useful.
  • Log data — standard server logs including your IP address, browser, referring URL, and the date and time of your visit. This is retained for security and debugging purposes and is not used for advertising.
  • Cookie data — cookies set by Google AdSense and analytics tools. See sections 4 and 5 for detail on what these do.

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or any contact information (unless you email us directly)
  • Any financial data you enter into our calculators
  • Payment information of any kind
  • Account credentials (there are no accounts on this site)

3. Calculator data — what stays in your browser

Every calculation on P&LCalc happens entirely within your browser using JavaScript. When you enter numbers into the profit and loss calculator, gross margin calculator, breakeven calculator, or any other tool on this site:

  • The numbers are processed locally on your device
  • No data is transmitted to our servers or any third party
  • Nothing is stored between sessions — closing the tab clears everything
  • We have no access to the financial figures you enter

This is deliberate. Your business's revenue, costs, and margins are sensitive information. We built the calculators to work without sending that data anywhere.

4. Cookies and tracking

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We use cookies for two purposes: advertising (via Google AdSense) and analytics. We do not use cookies for any other purpose.

What you can do about cookies: You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect how ads display, but will not affect the functionality of any calculator on this site — the tools work entirely without cookies.

Most browsers allow you to view, manage, and delete cookies through their settings or preferences menus. Common browser cookie controls:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

5. Google AdSense and advertising

P&LCalc uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense is operated by Google LLC. This is how we fund the site and keep all calculators free.

What AdSense does:

  • Sets cookies on your device to serve relevant ads based on your browsing history and interests
  • Uses the DoubleClick cookie to track ad impressions and clicks across websites in the Google Display Network
  • May use your data to show you personalised advertisements based on your prior visits to this and other websites

Where ads appear: Advertisements appear in the surrounding page content — in page headers, sidebars, and between content sections. Ads do not appear inside the calculators themselves. The tools are clean and uninterrupted.

Opting out of personalised ads: You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google by visiting Google's Ad Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

For more information on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

6. Analytics

We use analytics software to understand how visitors use this site — which calculators are most used, which pages people visit, and how long they spend on each tool. This helps us improve the calculators and decide which new tools to build.

Analytics data is aggregated and anonymised — we see that "500 people used the breakeven calculator this week" but not who those people are or what numbers they entered. We do not use analytics to identify individual users.

If we use Google Analytics, it is governed by Google's Privacy Policy available at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

7. Third-party links

Our learning articles may contain links to external websites — accounting software providers, government tax resources, financial publications, and similar. These sites have their own privacy policies, which we have no control over and are not responsible for. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any external site before providing personal information.

We do not knowingly link to sites with predatory privacy practices. If you notice a link to a site you believe has problematic data practices, please let us know.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to access — the right to request a copy of data we hold about you
  • Right to deletion — the right to request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to correction — the right to request correction of inaccurate data
  • Right to object — the right to object to processing of your data for certain purposes
  • Right to data portability — the right to receive your data in a portable format

Since we collect minimal data and no financial data from our calculators, most of these rights are straightforward to exercise. To make any request, contact us at hello@[yourdomain].com and we will respond within 30 days.

California residents (CCPA): If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not sell personal information. For CCPA-specific requests, contact us at the email above and note "CCPA Request" in your subject line.

EEA/UK residents (GDPR): If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, the legal basis for processing your data is our legitimate interest in operating and improving this website. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority if you believe your rights have been violated.

9. Children's privacy

P&LCalc is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We will not notify users of minor wording changes, but will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes — for example, if we add a new data collection practice.

Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
